Purpose
Since 2005, the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CETLA) has sponsored a Unit Participation Award to recognize the Howard University school or college that has achieved the highest level of participation in CETLA's professional development activities. CETLA presents the award because a high level of participation represents a commitment to improving teaching, learning, and assessment--a commitment worth celebrating and emulating across the campus.
Eligibility
All Howard University schools and colleges are eligible.
Procedures
No applications or nominations are required. Using data from
CETLA's registration database and the Office of Institutional Research,
CETLA calculates the percentage of each unit's faculty who participated
during the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). If the unit
achieved at least a 40% participation rate, then CETLA computes a final
score. To ensure that
size does not place any unit at a disadvantage, CETLA weights the
results to reflect frequency of participation: The weight equals
the number of faculty who participated more than once divided by the
number of CETLA's unique visitors.
Recognition
CETLA presents a plaque to the Dean of the winning school or college at a university-wide event (e.g., a Faculty Showcase or Council of the Deans' meeting).
